The Beginning

I started writing Return of the Sun in 1996 while living in Bozeman, Montana. I have a B.S. in Geology and was very aware of the potential disaster lurking in the south.

As I imagined what it would be like if the Yellowstone hotspot erupted, a plot began to form. What if someone in Bozeman survived the eruption? How would they survive? What would the world look like after such an event? My version of the answers to these questions lies within the pages of Return of the Sun.

A decision I made during the development of the story was to take an unusual path. I did not want just another post-apocalyptic tale of humans behaving badly. No gore, no over-the-top cannibalistic cults. I wanted a story about people you could know, perhaps someone like you.
